Spain: Mediapro group launches free sports channel GOL on Spanish DTT

Mediapro launched a free sports channel called GOL on Spanish DTT, announced the Spanish audiovisual group on 02/06/2016. Several Spanish media outlets had announced this impending launch on 18/03/2016. This channel will provide coverage of sporting news with content produced by Mediapro (information, reports, programmes) and will offer live broadcasts of competitions (not premium).

The Mediapro group has agreed to lease the channel from the holder of its operating rights, the Spanish communications group Unidad Editorial, which owns the Spanish newspapers El Mundo and Marca. The channel was operated, until 19/03/2016, by the network specialising in religious content 13 TV. Mediapro will pay €3.5m per year to lease the DTT channel, according to the Spanish media. The agreement must be approved by the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism.
