Brand Finance: Man United retain top place in European club brand value ranking (€1.076bn)

Manchester United FC (Premier League), with a brand valuation of €1.076bn, retained its first place ranking - established by the American company Brand Finance, a specialist in economic evaluation - in its 2016 edition of its annual report "Football 50", published on 06/06/2016. The club's brand value grew by 10% compared to 2015 (€993m).

"Brand Finance calculates the values of the brands in its league tables using the ‘Royalty Relief approach’. This approach involves estimating the likely future sales that are attributable to a brand and calculating a royalty rate that would be charged for the use of the brand, i.e. what the owner would have to pay for the use of the brand if it were not already owned," said Brand Finance in its report.

As in 2015, Manchester United came in ahead of Real Madrid CF (Liga BBVA), second in 2016, with a brand value estimated at €1.056bn. The current European champions are the club whose brand value has experienced the highest increase from 2015 (+€337m, an increase of 47%).
