Euro 2016: €1bn in TV rights revenue (including €110m from host France), +50% from Euro 2004

EURO 2016 SAS has tabled a figure of €1bn in TV rights revenue, which means the total revenue of Euro 2016 should approach €2bn for this first edition of the tournament featuring 24 participating teams. Euro 2012 (16 teams) generated €837.2m in TV rights revenue, according to the reports of UEFA; that figure represented an increase of 4% compared to Euro 2008 (€801.6m), but up 50% from Euro 2004 (€560m).

In the host country France, UEFA awarded the broadcasting rights for Euro 2016 to the pay-TV channel beIN Sports France, and the free-TV channels TF1 and M6 (for an estimated €110m in total), on 10/04/2012:

• beIN Sports France acquired the entirety of the broadcasting rights in France (all 51 matches), for an estimated €60m
• The French public broadcaster TF1 will broadcast a total of 22 games of the Euro 2016 for an estimated total of €40m: 11 games required to be broadcast on free-TV in France (but also co-broadcast on beIN Sports France) for an estimated €25m acquired from UEFA on 10/04/2012, and 11 others games, acquired via sublicense from beIN Sports France for an estimated…
