Euro 2016: UEFA threatens England and Russia with "sanctions up to disqualification"

"UEFA strongly condemns the violent clashes that took place in the centre of Marseille (on Saturday 11/06/2016) and is very concerned following the incidents that marred the match (England - Russia, 1 -1) inside the Stade Velodrome," said the UEFA Executive Committee on 12/06/2016, who declared that they were "shocked".

Clashes between English and Russian supporters were the most notable of the violent scenes, situated on the Old Port of Marseille where 35 were injured, on 11/06/2016.

"The UEFA Executive Committee has warned both football associations that - irrespective of any decisions taken by the independent disciplinary bodies relating to incidents inside the stadium - it will not hesitate to impose additional sanctions on the Football Association (FA) and the Russian Football Union (RFS), including the potential disqualification of their respective teams from the tournament, should such violence occur again," said the UEFA Executive Committee.
