"The events which took place in Marseille last night (11/06/2016) are unacceptable. Unacceptable to the public, unacceptable for authorities and for society and unacceptable for football lovers. We have witnessed violence between supporters instigated by drunken hordes who have engaged in unacceptable abuses of public order," said Bernard Cazeneuve, the French Minister of the Interior, on 12/06/2016.

Of the fights between supporters, of which English and Russian fans were notably implicated, in the Old Port of Marseille, 35 were injured, on 11/06/2016. "I solemnly salute the determined action of the police. I do not accept and will not accept how anyone can undermine the work of police and gendarmes," said Bernard Cazeneuve.

"It is necessary at the European level, collectively, to change protocols and regulations. That is why I call for each of the involved parties to take responsibility. I reminded the prefects of the need to make arrests and to take those arrested to the border as well as to obligate all foreign supporters whose behaviour is of the disturbance of public to leave…
