England - Russia (1-1), the opening match of Euro 2016 for the two teams in Group B at the Stade Velodrome (Marseille), drew an average of 12.9 million viewers in the United Kingdom, on the private, free-TV channel ITV on Saturday 11/06/2016 (kick-off at 21:00 CET), according to press release from the British TV channel on 12/06/2016.

This figure represented a 43% audience share, and a peak audience of 14.1 million viewers, which allowed ITV to achieve the best performance in the UK TV market on 11/06/2016.

Additionally, according to multiple British media outlets, the Euro 2016 match between England - Russia was the most watched TV programme - across all channels - in the UK TV market in 2016. The previous highest peak for a TV programme in the UK in 2016 was for "Britain's Got Talent", which drew a peak audience of 11.6 million viewers on 16/04/2016.
