FC Barcelona striker Lionel Messi and his father, Jorge Horacio, accused of tax fraud amounting to €4.1m, could reach an agreement with the Spanish tax authorities to pay them the sum claimed.

In the last few days, Messi is thought to have made a €10m payment to the Spanish tax authorities to correct his tax returns for 2010 and 2011, according to Catalan daily newspaper, La Vanguardia, on the 24/06/2013. However, it was his income tax returns from the years 2007, 2008 and 2009 that were under scrutiny.

The Argentinian player and his father are summoned to court on the 17/09/2013. They are accused of faking the transfer of image rights to a network of shell companies in various tax havens.
