FIFA: Fatma Samoura passes the eligibility check, will take office on 20/06/2016

"FIFA can confirm that Fatma Samba Diouf Samoura has successfully passed the eligibility check conducted by the independent Review Committee and will assume the role of FIFA secretary general on Monday, 20/06/2016," stated the international federation on 14/06/2016.

The Senegalese Fatma Samoura, 54 years old, was appointed secretary general of the international federation by the FIFA Council on 13/05/2016. Article 37 of the new FIFA Statutes required her to undergo an eligibility check carried out by the FIFA Review Committee (see composition below).

"To achieve our goals, we decided to set up a more efficient structure that will allow FIFA to fulfill its primary mission, the development of football in the world, more effectively," said Fatma Samoura on 30/05/2016, adding that two deputy secretaries are responsible for overseeing the the structures in place:

• Marco Villiger (SUI) directs the commercial and administrative side.
• Zvonimir Boban (CRO), a former international midfielder, is the head of football-related matters.
