Euro 2016: 323 people arrested, 8 sentenced to prison (French Interior Ministry)

"Since the start of Euro 2016, 323 people have been arrested by security forces, for offences including violence, theft or the damage to property," said the French Interior Ministry on 16/06/2016.

"Of these, 196 were placed in custody, eight have already been sentenced to prison and three have been given suspended sentences," said the ministry in a statement on the "The security of Euro 2016".

"In addition, 24 people were subject to a prefectural order of deportation. These security protocols will be in force throughout the competition," concluded the ministry.

"The commitment of the (French) State, with more than 77,000 staff from the Interior Ministry mobilised:

  • 42,000 policemen
    • 2,000 public safety
    • 5,000 border police
    • 2,000 CRS (riot specialists)
    • 10,000 from the Paris Police Prefecture
  • 30,000 policemen, including the Gendarmerie and its regional branches
  • 5,200 civil security
    • 2,500 firefighters
