Bundesliga: Sky will pay €876m per year on average for its TV rights lot from 2017 to 2021 (+80%)

Sky Deutschland will pay an average of €876m per year for the 2017-2021 TV rights to the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga, announced the pay-TV group on 09/06/2016. Sky currently pays an average of €486m on per year for the domestic TV rights in the existing agreement from 2013 to 2017, thus the new amount is an increase of 80% over the next period. This increase will be only 32% between 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons, however the the scope of Sky's rights is different: Sky Deutschland retains gets the exclusivity of the entire 2.Bundesliga, but loses some live Bundesliga matches, in a new lot acquired by Eurosport.

The German Professional Football League awarded the domestic broadcasting rights to the German professional competitions (Bundesliga, 2.Bundesliga, promotion/relegation play-offs and the Germany Supercup) to Sky Deutschland, Eurosport, ARD, ZDF, Perform, Sport 1 and Amazon on 09/06/2016. The DFL will receive a total €4.64bn in revenue for the domestic TV rights over the 2017-2021 period (average of €1.16bn per year), or 85% more than during the 2013-2017 cycle.
