"I don't see us actively bidding for (sports) rights," stated Dan Reed, the head of sports partnerships for Facebook, regarding the social network directly acquiring sports rights for live broadcast on its platform, on 10/06/2016.

Rights holders in sports have been "very interested" in if and how Facebook would enter the sports broadcasting market, via its Facebook Live video-streaming platform. According to the specialised American marketing media outlet The Drum, Facebook Live has over 650 million users who follow a sports league, team, or athlete. The Facebook social network itself has over 8 billion daily video views, according to the website.

"There are a number of potential solutions that could solve monetisation (of Facebook Live). We're in the midst of experimenting with a lot of different models but that's our goal… There's been a lot of interest in utilising this platform (Facebook Live) given the reach, distribution and engagement that we're seeing. Live videos generally give 10 times more comments than traditional VOD on Facebook," added Dan Reed on 10/06/2016.
