Italy: Mediaset, Infront, Sky and the Lega Serie A appeal the €66m given in fines (illegal cartel)

Mediaset, Infront Italy, Sky Italia, and the Lega Serie A have all appealed against the fine imposed on them by the AGCM following their alleged cartel activities around the allocation of the domestic TV rights for the Serie A for the 2015-2018 period, according to the Italian media on 20/06/2016.

The appeal was filed before the Regional Administrative Court of Lazio (region of Rome) before the deadline on 20/06/2016. The AGCM had condemned all parties involved in the cartel - RTI (subsidiary of Mediaset), Infront Italy, Sky Italia, and the Lega Serie A - to pay a total of €66m in fines regarding the allocation of the domestic TV rights for the Serie A for the 2015 to 2018 cycle, on 20/04/2016 (see below).

  • The domestic TV rights tender for 2015-2018 for the Italian first division was launched on 19/05/2014 by the League and Infront Italy , their media advisor.
  • The main lots were awarded on 26/06/2014.
