"The Unified Championship would mean more money, but I don't support it. Personally, I'm against it," said Oleg Blokhin, Dynamo Kiev's (Ukraine) manager, on the 22/04/2013.

Sponsored by the Russian energy giant Gazprom, this Russian-Ukrainian super league would involve 16 teams from Russia and 14 from Ukraine, according to a proposal made by Sergei Pryadkin, president of the Russian Premier League on the 13/12/2012.

The initiative has been supported by several major Russian clubs including CSKA Moscow, Zenit St. Petersburg and FC Anzhi Makhachkala.

"It goes against the principles of FIFA, therefore FIFA would never support such idea. It's the policy of FIFA and the whole world football family. We will never reconsider the boundaries of national leagues," said Sepp Blatter, FIFA (International Federation of Association Football) president, on the 20/01/2013.
