Euro 2016 : "host cities are fighting for the benefits" (Alain Juppé, mayor of Bordeaux)

"All cities are fighting for the benefits of Euro 2016. UEFA will make a lot of money through this competition, which is normal. But the host cities are also making an effort and we would like this to be taken into account and get our share of the rewards," Alain Juppé, mayor of Bordeaux, told NTF at the presentation ceremony for the 2016 European Championship’s logo, in Paris on the 26/06/2013.

"Euro 2016 is a major challenge for Bordeaux. Everyone knows how important sport is in our city, football in particular. We have not forgotten the 1998 World Cup, it was a magical moment for the city. This is why I want us to be involved in 2016," the French former Prime Minister added.

"The tournament will be a great moment of togetherness in Bordeaux. In these tough times, we need to boost the morale of our fellow citizens and I think that coming together to celebrate football is good for morale," Juppé added.
