France: "We are bottom of the class" (Bernard Caïazzo, at the Première Ligue convention)

"...The amount of the German (domestic) TV rights for €1.4bn per year is almost double that of the French domestic rights. Then (we are also) behind the untouchable English, whose TV rights reach €3.7bn (per year), then there are the Spaniards at €1.6bn per season, and the Italians at €1.2bn. Then us, the French, we are bottom of the class," said Bernard Caïazzo, the president of the French union of Ligue 1 clubs, the Première Ligue, to News Tank Football, on 27/06/2016.

The Première Ligue, which consists French professional football club owners/presidents, is holding its first Convention of French Professional Football in Cannes (FRA), on Tuesday 28/06 and Wednesday, 29/06/2016. The guests of honour at this 2016 gathering, which may become an annual event, are David Dein (UK), an Ambassador of the Premier League, and Christian Seifert (GER), the CEO of the DFL, the German Professional Football League. However, "our convention will bring together over 250 leaders (in football)," said Caïazzo, the chairman of AS Saint-Étienne (Ligue 1).
