The Euro 2016 quarter-final, Germany - Italy (1-1, Germany won 6-5 on penalties), drew an average of 28,320,000 viewers on the German public channel ARD, on Saturday, 02/07/2016 (kick-off at 21:00 CET). This figure represented an audience share of 79.8%, and enabled ARD to achieve the best performance in the German TV market for prime time on 02/07/2016.

This is also the largest audience in Germany for a Euro 2016 game since the beginning of the competition, but not the largest audience share, which is still attributed to the Euro 2016 Round of 16 match between Germany - Slovakia (3-0) - which drew an average of 28,110,000 viewers on the German public channel ZDF, on Sunday, 26/06/2016 (kick-off at 18:00 CET) with an audience share of 81.2%

The record for a match of the Euro championship in Germany is still held by the Euro 2008 semi-final match between Germany-Turkey (3-2), which drew an average of 29.46 million viewers on ZDF, on 25/06/2008 (kick-off at 20:45 CET).
