"Since the beginning of the competition, the police have conducted more than 1,000 arrests, resulting in 600 persons being placed into police custody, and 56 convictions. 34 prefectural orders of deportation were made, particularly with regards to the hooligans responsible for the violence in Marseille on 11/06/2016," stated Bernard Cazeneuve, the French Minister of the Interior, on 04/07/2016, on the subject of Euro 2016, which climaxes on 10/07/2016.

"The Euro is not yet finished, and we must remain vigilant. But so far, apart from the unacceptable violence that took place in Marseille on the second day of the competition (11/06/2016), the tournament has gone ahead normally in the festive atmosphere that everyone hoped for," added Bernard Cazeneuve, in an interview with regional daily paper, La Provence.

The minister had previously announced that "557 arrests have been made, for offences including violence, theft or damage to property, resulting in 344 persons being placed into police custody, with 21 being sentenced to prison, of which 6 with suspended sentences," after a meeting…
