Euro 2016: 17.7 million viewers for Portugal - Wales in Germany on ARD (audience share: 55%)

The first semi-final of Euro 2016, Portugal - Wales (2-0) at Parc OL (Lyon), drew an average of 17.78 million viewers in Germany on the free, public channel ARD, on Wednesday, 06/07/2016 (kick-off at 21:00 CET).

This figure represented an audience share of 55%, and allowed the channel to achieve the best performance in the German TV market for prime time on 06/07/2016.

The record in Germany for a Euro match is still held by the 2008 semi-final Germany-Turkey (3-2), which drew an average of 29.46 million viewers on ZDF, on 25/06/2008 (kick-off at 20:45 CET).

  • The Euro 2016 quarter-final, Germany - Italy (1-1, 6-5 pens), on Saturday, 02/07/16 (21:00 CET), is, so far, the best audience for the ARD since the beginning of the competition.
    • The match drew 28.32 million viewers on average, for an audience share of 79.8%.
