Euro 2016: Portugal become the 10th different nation to win the competition

Portugal, the champions of Euro 2016 after defeating France in the final (1-0 after extra time at the Stade de France, 10/07/2016), are the 10th different nation to win the competition in fifteen editions.

Germany and Spain have won the cup three times, and France two times. Seven other countries, now including Portugal, have each won one European Championship.

The Portuguese Football Federation will receive €25.5m from UEFA in winning the 2016 edition of the European Championship. An €8m participation fee will be paid to each of the 24 teams qualified for the group stage, and then, on top of that ,the Portuguese side have earned €1.5m based on results bonuses during the group stage (€500,000 for each of the three drawn matches in Group F against Iceland, 1-1, Austria, 0-0, and Hungary, 3-3).

Portugal, which finished third in Group F, earned an additional €1.5m to their total thanks to their qualification for the knockout stages, then €2.5m for qualifying for the quarter-finals, and a further €4m for reaching the semi-final stage which all totals €17.5m. The FPF, the Portuguese…
