FC Barcelona: Qatar Airways will be the main shirt sponsor in 2016-17, followed by Amazon (press)

Qatar Airways has extended their deal as the main sponsor for FC Barcelona (LaLiga) for one season (2016-17), to be followed by Amazon, who have penned a deal for five seasons (2017-2022), according to the Catalan daily Mundo Deportivo on 08/07/2016, in which it states that this information will be formalised before 15/07/2016.

Barça and Nike, the US sports equipment supplier, presented the home shirt of the Catalan club for the 2016-17 season, devoid of any main sponsor, on 30/05/2016. "We want the best possible deal. When we either decide to extend the deal with Qatar Airways or make an agreement with one of the other two interested companies, we will announce it," stated Josep Maria Bartomeu, FC Barcelona president, on 30/06/2016.

In 2016-17, the Qatari airline could pay an amount less than the €32m figure it paid on average each season during the 2013-2016 period. In addition, Qatar Airways will no longer appear at the training ground of FC Barcelona in 2016-17, and the club will sell this space to another sponsorship brand, according to Mundo Deportivo.
