Club Atlético de Madrid: acquisition of 34.6% of RC Lens (Ligue 2) approved by shareholders

The acquisition of 34.6% of the share capital of RC Lens (Ligue 2) was approved by the shareholders of Club Atlético de Madrid (Liga BBVA), at the Extraordinary General Meeting of Club Shareholders of the club on 11/07/2016. 99.78% of the votes cast by shareholders were in favour of the takeover of the French club.

The relevant shares of RC Lens were transferred to the Luxembourg company Solferino and to Atlético Madrid, for an amount of €660,000, on 23/05/2016. At the time of the purchase the new owners had announced that Solferino would keep 65% of the capital of RC Lens, and Atlético Madrid would be a shareholder at 34.6%, provided that this was approved at the General Meeting of Club Shareholders.

Among the leaders of the Solferino company, whose statutes were filed in April 2016, are Ignacio Aguillo, member of the board of Atletico Madrid, and Miguel Angel Gil Marín, CEO of the Madrid club.
