Euro 2016: 574.6 million total viewers in Germany for the 45 matches broadcast on ARD and ZDF

The German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF drew 574.66 million cumulative viewers for their broadcasts of 45 of the 51 games of Euro 2016, for an average of 12.77 million viewers per game. ARD drew 286 million viewers for its 22 matches, or 13 million per match, while ZDF drew 288.6 million viewers for its 23 matches, or 12.5 million per match.

The highest mark, in Germany, of Euro 2016, was for the second semi-final, Germany - France (0-2) at the Stade Vélodrome (Marseille), which drew an average of 29.82 million viewers (about 37% of the total German population) on ZDF, on Thursday, 07/07/2016 (kick-off at 21:00 CET). This figure represented an audience share of 80.6%, and allowed ZDF to achieve the best audience of the competition across all channels. This is a new record in Germany for a Euro match. The previous mark was held by the 2008 semi-final, Germany-Turkey (3-2), which drew an average of 29.46 million viewers on ZDF, on 25/06/2008 (kick-off at 20:45 CET).
