Attack in Nice: UEFA "is shocked and deeply saddened"

"UEFA is shocked and deeply saddened by the terrorist attack which occurred yesterday (Thursday, 14/07/2016) in Nice (FRA). We would like to express our solidarity with the nation of France and our sincere condolences to the families of the victims," stated UEFA on 15/07/2016.

A lorry crashed into the crowd on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, just after the fireworks of July 14th (Bastille Day), at approximately 23:30 CET. As of the morning of 15/07/2016: at least 84 dead and dozens more injured, including twenty in very serious condition.

"We would also like to express our solidarity with the people of the city of Nice, who were tremendous hosts for us during Euro 2016," said UEFA. The Allianz Riviera in Nice hosted four of the 51 games of the Euro:
• Poland - Northern Ireland, 1-0, Group C on 12/06/2016
• Spain - Turkey, 3-0, Group D, on 17/06/2016
• Sweden - Belgium, 0-1, Group E, on 22/06/2016
• England - Iceland, 1-2, Round of 16, on 27/06/2016
