CAF: Total (energy) partner of the AFCON and official sponsor of African football (2017-2024)

The energy conglomerate Total has signed a partnership agreement with the CAF, making French oil group the title partner of the Africa Cup of Nation (AFCON) and the official sponsor of African football for eight years (2017-2024), announced the two parties on 21/07/2016.

Total replaces the French telecommunications group Orange (2009-2016) in this sponsorship role, and will its brand present for the 10 main CAF competitions, starting with the AFCON - now the "Total African Cup of Nations" - whose 2017 edition will be held in Gabon, from 14/01 to 05/02/2017.

"This partnership is a major milestone in our ongoing search for additional resources to accelerate African football's development, bring its governance up to date, upgrade its sports infrastructure and advance its performance globally," said Issa Hayatou, president of the Confederation of African Football, on 21/07/2016.
