FIFA: regulations and schedule for the Rio 2016 Olympic Football Tournaments

"The Olympic Football Tournaments are events embodied in the FIFA Statutes. The Olympic Football Tournaments take place every four years, in conjunction with the Olympic Summer Games. The associations affiliated to FIFA are invited to participate with their men’s U-23 and women’s representative teams," indicate the first two articles of the Regulations for the Olympic Football Tournaments, applicable for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro (BRA), held from 05 to 21/08/2016.

Due to scheduling requirements, the football tournaments start before the opening ceremony of the Olympics on Friday, 05/08/2016:

• The women's football tournament (12 teams, 26 games) begins on Wednesday, 03/08/2016 and ends on Friday, 19/08/2016.
• The men's tournament (16 teams, 32 games) begins on Thursday, 04/08/2016 and ends on Saturday, 20/08/2016.

The final of both the men's and women's tournaments will take place at the Maracana (73,500 seats) in Rio de Janeiro (kick-off at 17:30 local time, 22:30 CET).
