FIFA: one year suspension for Wolfgang Niersbach, the former president of the German Federation

Wolfgang Niersbach, former DFB president (2012-2015) and former vice-president of the local organising committee for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, has been suspended for one year by the adjudicatory chamber of the FIFA Ethics Committee, announced the international federation on 25/07/2016.

Wolfgang Niersbach has been found guilty of not reporting the facts relating to possible wrongdoing in connection with the awarding to Germany, on 06/07/2000, the organisation of the 2006 World Cup. The Ethics Committee specifies that it did not look into acts of corruption, but rather the non-communication of suspicious information to the judicial bodies of FIFA.

Wolfgang Niersbach had resigned "with immediate effect" as the president of the DFB, on 09/11/2015. "I've realized that the time had come for me to take political responsibility," said Wolfgang Niersbach, about the scandal that has rocked the German Federation regarding the awarding of the 2006 World Cup to Germany.
