"Honorary president Jan Peeters died on 21/07/2016 at the age of 82, following a brain hemorrhage," stated the URBSFA on 22/07/2016. Jan Peeters was president of the Belgian Federation from 2001 to 2006, after having been vice-president from 1990 to 1996.

"Jan Peeters occupied important positions within the URBSFA for many years, and held various roles within FIFA and UEFA, where he was also enormously respected," said François de Keersmaecker, the successor to Peeters as president of the Belgian Federation.

Jan Peeters, born on 02/04/1934, was also part of the team that prepared the joint bid of Belgium-Netherlands for the organisation of the 2018-2022 World Cups.
