Premier League: Twitter becomes a partner of Sky Sports and will show clips from the 2016-17 season

Twitter signed a partnership with one of the Premier League's domestic broadcasters, Sky Sports, which allows the social network to broadcast the goals and highlights from all of the 2016-17 season's matches, in the United Kingdom and Ireland, on 27/07/2016. This distribution will be carried out via the "Twitter Amplify" programme, launched in 2013, allowing the organisation to push sponsored video content, broadcast on a TV channel, on the social network, however it will be slightly delayed.

Sky plc, the owner of Sky Sports in the UK, acquired five of the seven lots (compared to four lots during 2013-2016), which will give them exclusive rights to broadcast a total of 126 games per season between 2016-17 and 2018-19, in comparison with 116 in 2013-2016, or 8.6% more. Sky will pay £1.392bn (€1.88bn) per season, and £4,176bn (€5.64bn) total over the 2016-2019 period, representing a 83.2% increase from 2013-2016 (£760m / €898m per season; £2.28bn / €2.7bn over the period).
