"For me, FIFA is another UN, the UN of football. I am looking for a much stronger partnership with the UN, in order to make football the epicentre of the battle against social exclusion, poverty and hunger," said Fatma Samoura (SEN), FIFA secretary general on 28/07/2016.

"We can go much further than where we are now at FIFA in terms of changing the world and making it a better place to live," added Samoura in an interview with FIFA 1904 (FIFA's monthly magazine) entitled "Champion of Change".

A UN diplomat for 21 years, the new secretary general of the international federation was appointed by the FIFA Council on 13/05/2016. She is assisted by two deputy secretaries: Marco Villiger (SUI), who runs the commercial and administrative section, and Zvonimir Boban (CRO), a former international midfielder, and responsible for issues related to football.

"Despite the financial scandals, FIFA has this extraordinary global reach. People identify with football. People have a lot of hope in FIFA and in its ability to transform the world," said Fatma Samoura in the FIFA 1904 magazine.
