Facebook: 65 million cumulative fans for the 18 Bundesliga clubs in 2016-17 (August 2016)

The 18 clubs in the 2016-17 Bundesliga season have 65 million cumulative fans on the social network Facebook, according to data compiled by News Tank Football on 01/08/2016. This places the Bundesliga fourth amongst the European Top 5 leagues on Facebook - behind the Premier League, LaLiga Santander, and the Serie A TIM - with 3.61 million fans on average per club.

FC Bayern Munich are the most followed German club, with 38.41 million fans, up 971,000 (+2.6%) since June 2016, the last survey conducted by News Tank Football. Bayern Munich thus comprise 59% of the total number of Facebook fans in the Bundesliga. With 14.38 million fans, Borussia Dortmund is, by some distance, the second most popular German club, with 5.2 times more fans than the third place club, FC Schalke 04 (2.81 million).

Six Bundesliga clubs - including the two promoted teams, SC Freiburg (15th, 222,000 fans) and RB Leipzig (16th, 164,000) - have fewer than 300,000 fans on Facebook, which is the second best of the Top 5 leagues, behind the Premier League, which has only one club is below the bar of the 300,000…
