Twitter: 46.24 million cumulative followers for 20 LaLiga Santander clubs in 2016-17 (August 2016)

The 20 clubs in the 2016-17 LaLiga Santander season have 46.24 million cumulative followers on the social network Twitter, according to data compiled by News Tank Football on 02/08/2016. This makes LaLiga Santander the most popular European Top 5 league on Twitter, with 2.31 million followers on average per club.

Real Madrid CF are the most followed Spanish club, with 20.2 million followers, up 700,000 (+3.6%) since June 2016, the last survey conducted by News Tank Football. The Madrid team is the European club with the most followers on its main Twitter account, and also the one who gained the most followers during the 2016 off-season.

FC Barcelona are the only club in the Top 5 leagues with its main account (the one with the most followers) not the one in its national language, since Barça have more followers for its English account (18.2 million) than the Spanish version (10 million).

Club Atlético de Madrid (3rd, 2.38 million followers) is the only Spanish club other than Real Madrid and Barcelona well above the average number of followers amongst LaLiga Santander clubs. These…
