Portugal: agreement between MEO, NOS, Vodafone, and Cabovisão for the sharing of sports TV rights

The telecommunications operator MEO (Portugal Telecom Group, brand owned by the Dutch holding group Altice) signed an agreement to share sports TV rights in Portugal with the telecommunications groups Vodafone Portugal and NOS, according to the Portuguese media, on 26/07/2016.

The agreement, ratified by the Portuguese competition authority (CMVM), will allow each group to broadcast on its channels the TV rights acquired by other groups, and share the incurred production costs.

These rights include Benfica TV (rights acquired by NOS) from 2016-17, and those of Sporting Clube de Portugal (NOS), as well as FC Porto (Portugal Telecom) from 2018-19.

Portugal Telecom holds the broadcasting rights to FC Porto (2018-2028) for €45.7m a year

• Portugal Telecom, a subsidiary of the Dutch holding company Altice, acquired the audiovisual rights for the home games of FC Porto in the Liga NOS, on 27/12/2015.
