Twitter: 8.27 million cumulative followers for the 18 Bundesliga clubs in 2016-17 (August 2016)

The 18 clubs in the 2016-17 Bundesliga season have 8.27 million cumulative followers on the social network Twitter, according to data compiled by News Tank Football on 02/08/2016. This makes the Bundesliga last among the European Top 5 leagues on Twitter, with 459,000 followers on average per club.

FC Bayern Munich are the most followed German club, with 2.95 million followers, up 120,000 (+4.2%) since June 2016, the last survey conducted by News Tank Football. However, Bayern Munich are not in the Top 10 of the most popular European clubs on Twitter, while it is the fifth most followed European club on Facebook.

Borussia Dortmund (2nd, 2.25 million followers) is the only other German club to have more than 500,000 followers, while this mark is exceeded by at least four clubs in each of the other Top 5 leagues.

Both clubs promoted to the Bundesliga in 2016-17 - SC Freiburg (14th, 116,000) and RB Leipzig (16th, 53,500) - are among the five clubs of the German top division with the lowest number of followers on Twitter.
