Rio 2016: 14 men's and women's football matches before the opening of the Olympics on 05/08/2016

Six women's football matches took place on Wednesday, 03/08/2016, and eight men's football matches took place on Thursday, 04/08/2016; all scheduled before the opening ceremony of the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games (BRA) scheduled on Friday, 05/08/2016. Therefore, the 12 women's teams (three groups of four, see below) and the 16 men's teams (four groups of four) will have already played one match before the official start of the Games.

Each of the two tournaments (organised by FIFA, and reserved for women's A teams and men's U-23 teams) are scheduled on six days of the competition, 03, 06, 09, 12, 16 and 19/08/2016 for the women; and 04, 07, 10, 13, 17 and 20/08/2016 for the men. The women's tournament (26 games) will end on Friday, 19/08/2016; and the men's tournament (32 games) will end on Saturday, 20/08/2016, on the eve of the closing ceremony, which will take place on 21/08/2016. The two finals will be held at the Maracana (73,500 seats) in Rio de Janeiro (kick-off at 17:30 local time, 22:30 CET).
