Social networks: the Premier League is the most followed European league (57 million subscribers)

The Premier League is the most followed of the five major European leagues, with nearly 57 million cumulative subscribers on its official Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram accounts, as of 10/08/2016, at the beginning of the 2016-17 seasons of the European Top 5 leagues, which start between 12/08 (Ligue 1) and 26/08/2016 (Bundesliga).

The Premier League is ahead of LaLiga Santander (16 million cumulative subscribers) and the Serie A TIM (6.15 million). With 3.14 million subscribers, Ligue 1 is the least followed Top 5 league, with 18 times less fans than the Premier League and almost half of that of the Bundeliga, which has 5.4 million, therefore putting the German championship in 4th place out of the Top 5.

The cumulative total of the five championships reaches 85.4 million subscribers on the four social networks studied by News Tank Football. With 58 million fans on the Facebook pages of the Top 5 leagues, the platform comprises 68% of total number of subscribers. This is preferred social network of fans ahead of Twitter (16.8 million, 20%), Instagram (8.9 million, 10%)…
