Portugal: Portugal Telecom could enter the capital of Sport TV at 25%

"An agreement of understanding has already been signed with the goal of joining the shareholding structure of Sport TV", said Portugal Telecom (owned by the Dutch group Altice), on 05/08/2016. The Portuguese telecommunications group could, through its subsidiary Meo (fixed and mobile telephony, internet, and television), acquire a 25% stake in the Portuguese pay-TV group Sport TV, according to Portuguese media on 08/08/2016.

Vodafone Portugal joined the capital of Sport TV and now holds a 33.33% stake in the pay-TV group, just like the NOS telecommunications group and the Portuguese media group Media Group Global, on 29/07/2016. This double entry of capital could result in an agreement to share TV rights in Portugal signed between Meo, Vodafone Portugal, and NOS, on 26/07/2016.

The agreement, ratified by the Portuguese competition authority (CMVM), will allow each group to broadcast on its channels the TV rights acquired by other groups, and share the incurred production costs.
