FIFA: Malaysia renounces organisation the 2017 Congress, which will be held in another Asian country

"We can confirm that the 67^th FIFA Congress will not take place in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) because the Malaysian Football Federation did not fulfil all the conditions necessary for the organisation of the event," declared a spokesman for FIFA on 15/08/2016.

The Malaysian Federation was designated by FIFA, from among 10 candidate national federations, to organise the 2017 Congress of the international federation. The 67^th FIFA Congress was to be held in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, from 10 to 12/05/2017.

"A new host city will be named in due course, in consultation with the AFC. The Congress will still take place in Asia," said FIFA.

Malaysia cites security reasons to justify its decision not to host the Congress in 2017

• "We sent an official letter on 25/07/2016 about the withdrawal, and the matter was verified by FIFA on 09/08/2016. The decision was based on advice from the government due to security concerns, among others," said Affandi Hamzah, deputy president of the Malaysian Football Federation, on 15/08/2016.
