Brazil - Germany (1-1, 5-4 on penalties), the final of the men's football tournament in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, at the Maracana (73,500 seats) in Rio de Janeiro, drew, in Germany, an average of 8.25 million viewers on the public television channel ARD, on Saturday, 20/08/2016 (kick-off at 22:30 CET). This figure represented an audience share of 43.6%, and enabled ARD to achieve the best performance of the day in the German TV market.

This is a higher score than the final of the women's football tournament in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, Germany - Sweden (2-1), at the Maracana, which drew an average of 6.38 million viewers on the public channel ZDF, on Friday, 19/08/2016 (kick-off at 22:30 CET). This figure represented a 34.1% audience share, and allowed ZDF to achieve the second best performance of the day in the German TV market, behind the news at half-time on ZDF.
