Sky Deutschland: one Bundesliga game per matchday to be broadcast in Ultra HD from autumn 2016

Sky Deutschland, the official broadcaster of the Bundesliga in Germany, will broadcast one game per matchday of the German championship in Ultra HD (also known as 4K) from the autumn of 2016, announced the DFL on 17/08/2016. These games will be broadcast on "Sky Bundesliga UHD", one of Sky's two ultra-high definition channels - Sky Sport UHD is the other - which the German pay-TV group plans to launch in the autumn of 2016.

"The introduction of the UHD technology demonstrates once again the innovative strength of the Bundesliga. We are pleased to be able to provide our live broadcasting rights partners with yet another top product," said Holger Blask, director of audiovisual rights for the DFL, on 17/08/2016.

Sky Deutschland has been experimenting broadcasting its sports programming in 4k since 2014, with, for example, the FC Bayern Munich - SV Werder Bremen (5-2, on 26/04/2014) game from Matchday 32 of the 2013-14 Bundesliga season, which was the first football match to be broadcast live and in ultra-high definition by the German pay-TV group.
