O. Marseille: press announces takeover by Gerard Lopez, reports denied by club and M. Louis-Dreyfus

"Margarita Louis-Dreyfus (majority owner) formally denies the information published by France Football saying the club was sold. She questions the interest that could have a serious media to disseminate false and unverified information," read a statement on the website of Olympique de Marseille (Ligue 1) on 23/08/2016.

The weekly magazine France Football reported, on 23/08/2016, that Margarita Louis-Dreyfus has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Luxembourg businessman Gerard Lopez to takeover Olympique de Marseille, and the sale of club will be formalised on 28 and 29/08/2016. Infosport+, the pay-TV sports information channel of the Canal+ group, also suggested, on 23/08/2016, the existence of an "agreement in principle" between the two parties in the proposed takeover by Gerard Lopez.

"The day the sale of OM is finalised, employees and the City of Marseille will be the first to know and a statement will be released as it should. Speculation is therefore fanciful," says Margarita Louis-Dreyfus via the club website, on 23/08/2016.
