Rio 2016: 102.3 million unique visitors to BBC Sport's digital platforms

BBC Sport reported a record 102.3 million unique visitors on all its digital platforms (on OTT, TV, and web radio, as well as BBC iPlayer, the BBC Sport website, mobile applications, connected TV services with the "Red Button" and the BBC Sport 360 virtual reality platform) during the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games, from 06 to 21/08/2016, announced the public broadcaster, on 22/08/2016. BBC Sport recorded 39 million unique visitors during the London 2012 Olympic Games and 68.3 million visitors for Rio 2016 Olympics from the United Kingdom (67%).

The best day for BBC Sport's digital platforms was on Sunday, 14/08/2016, with 19 million unique visitors (a peak of 10.2 million visitors in one day was recorded during the 2012 London Olympics), when the British athletes won five gold medals. This British "Super Sunday" also allowed the BBC to record its largest coverage via social networks during a single day of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games with 108 million clicks on its Twitter account @bbcsport and 31 million people reached via publications of the BBC Sport Facebook page.
