Rio 2016: an average of 25.8 million viewers in the USA watched the Olympic Games on NBC

The Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games drew an average of 25.8 million viewers in the United States, during prime time on NBC, from 06 to 20/08/2016, announced the American broadcaster on 22/08/2016. The average total audience across all NBC Universal group channels and platforms reached 27.5 million people over the same period. Rio 2016 obtained the second best audience for an Olympic Games hosted outside of US soil (see below). 78% of American households watched the Olympics at least once, according to data from Nielsen.

The NBCOlympics.com website and NBC Sports application had a total of 3.3 billion minutes of streaming content (including live and delayed content as well as highlights), of which 2.71 billion minutes were live. The NBC digital coverage of the Rio 2016 Olympics drew 100 million unique users or 29% more visitors than during the London 2012 Olympic Games.
