FC Bayern Munich - SV Werder Bremen (6-0), the opening game of the 2016-17 Bundesliga season, drew an average of 5.98 million viewers in Germany on the public television channel ARD, on Friday, 26/08/2016 (kick-off at 20:30 CET).

This figure represented a 24.5% audience share in the German TV market for the prime time on 26/08/2016. This is the lowest audience for a Bundesliga opening match since 2009: VFL Wolfsburg - VfB Stuttgart (2-0) drew 5.44 million viewers, on Friday, 07/08/2009 (kick-off at 20:30 CET) for the opening game of the 2009-10 season.

The match was co-broadcast in Germany by the pay-TV channel Sky Deutschland, which drew an average of 450,000 subscribers for an audience share of 1.9% in the entire German TV market. The next day, Sky Deutschland drew 1.04 million subscribers on average for the Matchday 1 multiplex, on Saturday, 27/08/2016 (kick-off at 15:30 CET).
