MLS: Los Angeles FC break ground on stadium, announce Banc of California as naming rights partner

Los Angeles FC, an expansion franchise scheduled to begin play in MLS for the 2018 season, began construction of their new stadium with a ceremonial ground-breaking attended by the owners of the club, the MLS commisioner Don Garber, USSF president Sunil Gulati, and the Mayor of Los Angeles Eric Garcetti, on 23/08/2016. The American actor Will Ferrell and former NBA star Magic Johnson were among those present from the LAFC ownership consortium.

The expansion franchise also announced it has signed a naming rights agreement for the new stadium with the Banc of California, on 23/08/2016. The new stadium, with delivery expected in 2018, will be called the Banc of California Stadium. According to American media, the naming rights deal is worth $100m (about €90m) over 15 years, or an average of approximately $6.67m (about €6m) per year.

The Banc of California Stadium will be located near downtown Los Angeles, next to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the home of the American football games of the two major universities of the city, USC (University of Southern California) and UCLA…
