Portugal: RTP acquire the TV rights to the Portuguese League Cup (2016-2018)

RTP, a public television group (Rádio e Televisão de Portugal), acquired the rights to the Portuguese League Cup (Taça CTT) from the Portuguese Football League (PSSA) for the 2016-2018 period, on 26/08/2016. TVI was the former holder of the TV rights for the competition.

RTP acquired eight games per season, including five in the third round (group stage, after which the group winner qualifies for the semi-finals), the semi-finals, and final of the Taça CTT. The semi-finals and the final of the 2016-17 Portugese League Cup will be played during the same week, in January 2017. These matches will also be broadcast on RTP Africa and RTP International channels.

This distribution agreement between RTP and the Portuguese League is estimated to be worth approximately €1.6m for two seasons by Portuguese media, on 26/08/2016.
