Sport1 acquired the TV rights to the German Women's Championship (Frauen-Bundesliga) from the DFB for the 2016-2018 cycle, on 29/08/2016. Eurosport was the former holder of the TV rights for the competition (2013-2016).

The German television group acquired 22 games per season. These matches will be broadcast on the free channel Sport1, the pay-TV channel Sport1+, and the streaming platform Sport1.de.

"Especially in terms of access to digital media - an area in which Sport1 is superbly positioned - we see the collaboration as an opportunity to generate a wider audience," said Hannelore Ratzeburg, DFB vice-president for women’s football, on 29/08/2016.
