Turkey: beIN Media Group acquires the pay-TV group Digiturk (official)

The acquisition of DP Acquisitions BV, a holding company which owns the Turkish pay-TV group Digiturk, "represents the largest deal in the history of our group and a major milestone in our global expansion," said Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, chairman and CEO of the beIN Media Group, on 26/08/2016.

The Qatari pay-TV group formalised the acquisition of 100% of Digiturk, already mentioned in July 2015: "beIN Media Group acquired Digiturk, including the 53% which belonged to TMSF (savings fund and insurance group belonging to the Turkish) and 47% from the US private equity group Providence Equity Partners. The amount of the acquisition, which was not disclosed, could be around the $1.2bn mark (€1.09bn on 15/07/2015 )," stated Turkish media, on 13/07/2015.

The Digiturk bouquet, which has 3.3 million subscribers, includes 219 national channels, including its own Ligtv channels, whose recent exclusive broadcast deals in Turkey feature the Spor Toto Süper Lig (from 2001 until 2016-17 ), LaLiga Santander, and Ligue 1. Digiturk is the biggest pay-TV operator in the Turkish market.
