FIFA: rejection of appeals of Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid in relation to transfers of minors

"The FIFA Appeal Committee has decided to reject the appeals lodged by Spanish clubs Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid and to confirm in their entirety the decisions rendered by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee in the respective cases relating to the protection of minors," stated FIFA on 08/09/2016.

Club Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid CF have been banned from recruiting players for the whole of 2017, inclusive of the January transfer window and the summer transfer window. FIFA also imposed fines of 900,000 Swiss francs (€822,000) to Atlético and 360,000 Swiss francs (€329,000) to Real. Both clubs will also pay the price of a reprimand and a warning. They have been given a further "90 days in which to regularise the situation of all minor players concerned", said FIFA on 08/09/2016. The two Madrid clubs have five days to file a possible - and final - appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland.

FC Barcelona were banned from transfers for two periods (the 2015 January window as well as the 2015 summer window) for similar offenses, on 02/04/2014.
