UEFA: FIFA Ethics Committee authorizes Michel Platini to address the Congress on 14/09/2016

"The FIFA Ethics Committee has informed UEFA that Michel Platini (FRA) will be allowed to address the 12th Extraordinary UEFA Congress in Athens (GRE) on 14/09/2016. A request to authorize the presence of Michel Platini was recently made by UEFA and we welcome the decision," stated the European confederation on 12/09/2016.

Aleksander Ceferin (SLO), 48 years old, president of the Slovenian Football Association, and Michael van Praag (NED), 68 years old, president of the Football Federation of the Netherlands, are the only two candidates to replace Michel Platini at the presidency of UEFA, after the withdrawal of Angel María Villar Llona (ESP) on 06/09/2016.

The 55 national member federations affiliated to UEFA have one vote each. "In the first round, an absolute majority (more than half) of the votes validly cast is decisive. In the second and third rounds, a simple majority decides (the largest number of votes). Then, in case of a tie, we proceed to a draw," reads Article 19 (paragraph 1) of the UEFA Statutes, titled "Elections".
