Bundesliga: RTL acquire the rights to broadcast match highlights on Monday nights (2017-2021)

The German broadcasting group RTL and the pay-TV group Sky Deutschland acquired Lots N and L of the domestic audiovisual rights (Bundesliga, 2.Bundesliga, promotion/relegation play-offs, and the German Super Cup) respectively for the 2017-2021 cycle, announced the DFL on 12/09/2016.

For RTL, this are match highlights of the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga for broadcast on Monday between 22:15 and midnight. This is the first time that RTL have acquired Bundesliga TV rights since 1992.

Sky retains its rights to highlights of 2.Bundesliga matches for broadcast on Fridays between 22:30 and midnight and on Sundays between 19:30 and 21:15. Sky Deutschland will pay an average of €876m per year for the 2017-2021 TV rights to the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga.

Lots L and N had not been awarded due to the lack of a satisfactory offers during the first allocation of lots as of 09/06/2016. For all of the domestic audiovisual rights, the DFL announced that they had already secured €4.64bn in revenue for the 2017-2021 period (average of €1.16bn per year), on 09/06/2016.
